Jesus said that that kind of demon could only come out by fasting and prayer, yet He cast it out without fasting prayer on the spot. So what was he saying? He was telling them that they still needed some growth in their understanding of the power that is in prayer. The understanding of many other weapons such as fasting with prayer would come after Jesus had returned to the Father and the Holy Ghost sent from the Father. Fasting is most effective when we have learned how to pray first. Prayers are the questions and requests to the Father, and the Father’s answer is an answered prayer with results. The requests we ask which are in line with the perfect will of God are much more likely to be answered. When we get to this place in our walk with God, where it is not easy to cast out demons easily by the name of Jesus, then it is time to start fasting with our prayers.

The demons we war against are not because we are out looking for demons. You come up against them because you are seeking the Lord and doing the works of your calling. Just the simple works of loving the Lord with all of your heart and loving all mankind can bring on demon warfare without you asking for it.

There are giftings given to members of Christ’s church to casting out demons, but all should know the basic principles that break the strongholds of the enemy. Strongholds can be like depressions, un-forgiveness, bitterness and all self-destructing paths. There are many more strongholds, but I spare you the very long list. I am sure if you ask God, He will reveal to you what strongholds have a root in you.

Here are some weapons of this spiritual warfare that I have seen and experienced that work in casting out demons:

-The Name of Jesus and by the authority He has given us.

-The blood of Jesus is a very effective weapon.

-Singing the high praises of God and worshiping Him. This many times is one of simplest of ways in casting off the works of devils that war against us. There is not a lot of fanfare in dealing with them in this way, but there can be a lot of work done in one’s heart to restore the joy of their salvation. This praise to God is very effective, especially in times when we do not at all feel like praising God in all things. Usually, you will feel and see the results from worshiping the Lord very quickly. The demons do not like the high praise to God at all, and they themselves can not give thanks to God. Sometimes, I feel like laughing and do laugh for great joy in the Lord even while there are tears of immense sorrow flowing down my cheeks. It is when things look the bleakest that this happens, oddly enough. And it’s not what we might expect at all from having a heavy, sorrowful heart nor is it what our minds can fully comprehend.

-Lifting your hands in praise. Lifting your hands as you worship can be done in your closet prayer time, in singing praise and worship at church, or in your own home. I know from experience that some churches do not understand the power of raising our hands or the freedom that we should have in Christ as being a Christian, and they may look at you oddly. Never-the-less, this should be practised at least in your own time with God. I have seen demons flee away from people on a few different occasions, the moment their hands were raised in praise and worship the Lord.

-The Word of God. I want to write more fully on the Word of God in another article at some point. The Word of God can speak to you many different ways to cast out demons. Never-the-less, the words we hear from God should line up with the Holy Bible. The Bible is our check and balance of the words we hear, and should line up with it. These words of the Lord should also carry good works and good fruit with them. Good fruit will carry with it, love, hope, peace, faith, righteousness, kindness, etc.

- A mixture of these weapons. At times, we may need to use more than one of these principles at a time to bring the needed help to our soul. Such as raising your hands while singing praises of the Blood of the Lamb. So you have raised your hands, and are singing praises to God, combined with words of the Blood of the Lamb and see strongholds fall. For the most part, the Holy Spirit will reveal and teach what will break a certain stronghold. Only by a combination of these principles that we can break some stronghold of the devil.

1 Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. And Saul’s servants said unto him, behold now an evil spirit from God  troubleth thee. 16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are who in a cunning player on an when the evil spirit from God is his hand, and thou shalt be well. 17 and Saul said unto his servants, provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me. 18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man and a man of war, prudent in matters, and the Lord in with him.
The Power of Christian Praise & Worship in Spiritual Warfare
Psalm 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. 3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
Praising the Lord is a very powerful weapon of warfare for a Christian against the spiritual attacks from the kingdom of darkness that is ruled by demons.

What happens when you come across a demon that does not come out by the name of Jesus or the authority that it carries?

You are not alone, for it happened to the disciples of Jesus as well.
